When a subject poses to have his or her photograph taken, the subject tries to project a message about himself or
herself by how he or she “poses”, by the attitude of his or her body language or facial expression.
If the subject is posed by the photographer, the body pulled and prodded into the desired angles,
the facial expression “directed”, it is the photographer who is intending to communicate a message.
In either case, posing or posed, there is undeniably something
DOF is an online photography magazine based on personal and inspirational references. It is a media format to gather and publish photography artists discovered in the lost hours of internet mind travelling.
We all share the common interest for beautiful pictures, being photography the main media, this magazine is the place were I can show to others the works I consider as reference.
I hope this publication also helps you to discover new perspectives in photography and to be as inspired by them as much as I am.
DOF is always on the lookout for new photographers and artists alike, it is constantly scoping the world wide web for it´s immense potential in delivering the future.
"So... What is it then?"
"Well, it's... You know...! It''s when you... Hmmmm, wait!"
It was only when I was asked to describe it that I actually noticed that I could not easily put it into words. I took a second to think about it, and then slowly started enumerating what I remembered from the research I had done.
"No good! Start again... But this time, tell me what you see."
And then it hit me...
That's it... Sensuality is all about what you can't see, it's about what's implicit in a scene or a fragment of a moment. It's in all those hidden or undefined elements that ticks your imagination and transports you to that fantasy you've been w
I once had such a bond with a black cat myself. A true manifest to friendship andloyalty that went beyond time and space.
I was about 12 years old when my father brought him home, after finding himlost in the front door of the hotel where he worked. I now realise how much thatmoment changed my live, how it made me connect with another entity in a totallydifferent level, even if just a cat. Only another shy, introverted, stuttering kid wouldtruly understand what it felt to have grew up with such a friend. To whom to talkand genuinely express myself.
Maybe it was the way he looked at me, or how he would come and sit next tome when I was in my
Maybe it''s home sick or maybe it''s just coincidence, but this issue goes all the way home to Portugal. It''s a perspective of these special places that are or were part of our lives, we know that people, we walked those streets, the smells are sounds are forever embedded in our senses.
These are familiar visual stimulus that shake the roots of our memories, that connect us to our origins. That is why I asked the photographers to write something about the photos that were featured in this issue. Because they need to be contextualized, associated to the first person experience and not my interpretation.

Hi, DOF is an online photography magazine. Were new and talented photographers are showcased based on the theme at hand.
It's kind of a personal project were I write about something I like and I illustrate it with selected photos I find in the internet. A sort of a curated online gallery...
Hi, thanks for your interest in submitting for DOF.
The thing with DOF is that it doesn't work with submitted photos, it's quite a different process of selection and editing. The photos come as part of the theme or whatever text/topic I'm writing about. After I have an idea of what I want to say I get a picture in my head of what I want to show and then I start looking for photos. That doesn't mean that I don't look at submitted photographers, on the contrary, that's where I actually start looking. You just have to fit one the criteria of any of DOF next issues. I'll let you know if anything comes around in wich your photos could be part of it.
